I am currently holding a ‘contest’, to anyone who is interested. The prize for winning this is either a year’s subscription or a piece from my shop with a base price that is comparable to a year’s sub. Ok, so now that you know what your incentive is, here’s the deal:

My mother is trying to find a series of fantasy-themed books that she read when she was younger. She really loved the story, and wants to revisit the world and characters, but cannot remember the author’s name or book title. We both have been doing some searches for this series, but so far we have come up empty-handed. I figured I would give the folks here at DeviantART the information we currently have on the series, and see if anyone happens to know what we’re looking for, or is able to find it on their own. I’m thinking that this would be a great birthday present for her, to be able to find these books. I’m pretty sure it won’t come as a surprise to her though, seeing as she looks at my account here at DA. :P Oh well. Anyway, here’s the information we currently have:

-The books were written by a female author
-There are at least two books in the series
-The books were probably published before 1995
-The books are considered to be in the Fantasy/Romance genres
-In the second book, the protagonists were married, in the first they were not
-The main characters of the series were named ‘Cain’ and ‘Elaine’ (Spelling might be different, I’m not sure)
-The main characters held monk/priestess type occupations
-Elaine was a priestess of purity and light
-Elaine possibly had a Pegasus-like winged horse as a pet/companion
-Cain was a monk/priest of darkness… Possibly belonged to an order of dark priests
-Dark priesthood’s location was possibly in mountain/volcano area
-Protagonists were on a quest to discover what the ‘coming darkness’ was, and started a journey across the sea to an unknown land
-They encountered tribal people when they arrived in the new land, who if memory serves lived in tree houses
-The villainous creatures in the series were humanoid, lizard-like creatures who were once people, transformed by some sort of dark magic or disease
-Lizard creatures were referred to as some sort of soul eaters, who attacked/infected people with an umbilical-like stinger that emerged from their navels.
-The book title most likely had the word ‘Destiny’ in it somewhere, but we aren’t 100% sure of it

(Yeah. She found out already and gave me some additional info. We hope it helps. :XD: )

If you can find information on a book or series of books that sounds like this, please send me a note entitled ‘Book Contest’, and give me the following information:

-Author’s Name
-Series Title
-Book Titles

I will look it up and see if it is the correct series, and if so, you’ve won yourself a subscription or art from my store. I apologize for not having a larger selection of work available for purchase, but that’s the way it is for now.

Best of luck, everyone! I hope we can figure this one out. :w00t:

Is the first book Prophecy, or something like that?
:iconnestalgica:
Cain and Elaine... I might have read a little bit of it, but I don't remember anything else about it, so I'm of no help :bucktooth:

Well at least it sounds familiar to you, which is a great start in my opinion!

Not sure... I'll add Prophecy to my list of keywords that I'm using while searching for it myself. Thanks for the tip!

It almost sounds like the Lost Years of Merlin series by T.A. Barron, but lots of things don't fit

thought i know what it was before you got to the names.

Patricia. C. Wrede and her Enchanted Forest chronicle's sounds quite similar.

probably wont help you, but the Enchanted forest chronicle's are worth a read anyways if you can get you hands on them :)

Yeah, sure. I have the book called "Destiny" but I don't know the author...A bit lazy at the moment, so yeah. I'm sure that "Prophecy" is the first book, if that's what I'm thinking of. If not, then I don't know.

Hope that helps.
:icondazvinik:
Hmm, I think I'll look into that series, regardless. Sounds interesting. Thanks for the help!

Unfortunately, it isn’t the Enchanted Forest Chronicles. I have read that series though and enjoyed it a great deal. Patricia C. Wrede is quite an excellent author.

She also has a book of short stories called 'Book of Enchantments' that is very, very good. Some of the stories are a good bit darker than her Enchanted Forest Chronicles, but they are quite wonderful as well.

Thanks for the help, though! :)
