Hmm, full view is apparently necessary to be rid of the annoying background blackness.
General Info:
The fifth and final piece for my Independent Study this semester. I started off as a simple sketch of a dragon that was done at work. I liked him enough to want to color him, and spent quite a while attempting to come up with a dynamic layout for him. I decided that a square or rectangular shape was not working for this particular scene, so in an attempt to 'think outside the box' a bit, I encased him in an oval. I was more satisfied with that, but then quickly realized that the image would look quite a bit better with a frame of some sort, so I added that in as well.
I had do do at least one dragon image this semester, I focused mainly on humanoid creatures, so this was a nice excuse to revisit my roots, so to speak.
Constructive criticism is welcome as long as it remains constructive; I always welcome hearing other peoples ideas and opinions. However, I ask that you please respect that all final decisions in regards to a piece remain mine, as I am the artist.
Hopefully I won't have to fight with this to get the transparent background to work. Although the image is ovular, the canvas in Photoshop is still a rectangle. Background color tends to throw off the overall image a bit... =/
Technical Details:
Programs used - Adobe Photoshop CS2
Time Taken - 20-30 hours
Aww, thank you so much, but I still feel as though there is so much I could do with the piece yet. Ah well, I'm coming to terms with the fact that I will never be satisfied. You're very kind.

His proportion is one of the few things I am actually pretty happy with. I tend to stray away from 'typical' lizard-like proportions with my dragons, giving them longer limbs, a more muscular torso, and either narrower or overall smaller heads. Defining their shape/ratios has been a constant work in progress though, and I haven't gotten it quite nailed yet in some respects.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
